Some Important FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Insurance can be complicated, but as your personal advisors, we simplify it for you. Below are a few common questions.

  • What is a ‘Declaration Page’ in an insurance policy?

Also know as a "Dec Page," it is the main page of the policy, usually near the beginning of the policy document, that highlights key information, including insurance carrier name, policy number, coverage period, types of coverages provided, and premium summary.

  • What do you mean by ‘Additional Insured’?

Another person or entity that is covered by your policy, usually as a result of a contract requirment to extend your coverage to them. Typicaly Addtional Insureds can be clients, loan companies, banks, Mortgagers, It needs to be required by the other party in a written contract, signed by both parties.

  • What do you mean by "Certificate of Insurance"?

A document proived to another party, such as client, or lender, that evidencess that you have certain coverages in force. It is a snapshot at one momnet in time.

  • Why is it important to report all claims as soon as possible?

For commercial clients, reporting an incident on the same day that it occurs can potentially result in significant savings especially workers' compensation claims. Studies have regularly shown that waiting more than 10 days to report a claim can increase the cost of the claim by up to 60%. Additionally, reporting the claim immediately helps get the facts and witness statements recorded while the information is still fresh and the scene can be secured for investigative purposes (if necessary). Finally, prompt reporting of an incident provides faster treatment and assistance for an injured employee or client/visitor which can also result in greater savings.

  • Why is it important to have client contracts reviewed by an Attorney?

Contractual risks in the business world are increasing, and your assumed liability under the contract can be vague and difficult to pin down. Having a competent insurance professional review the contract is essential to mitigating your exposure to risks and protecting your company. Athlon Risk helps our insured by examining the liability you are assuming in your business agreement and will advise you on how to avoid, reduce and/or transfer liability by suggesting changes to the contract language or your insurance coverages. Using an attorney is also an invaluable tool when signing a new contract as they will advise on the legality of the agreement and draft language to further reduce your risk. Far too often, we see contracts that have been signed by clients where we were not afforded the opportunity to review them. These contracts are often not proper for the type of work being done and includes complicated language that puts too much liability on our insured they have little to no control over.

  • Do I need to report changes to my Business or Operations?

Changes to your operations can affect your insurance coverages and cause a claim to be denied.

  • Are there any exclusions or limitations to the insurance coverage?

Insurance polices only cover what is specifically addressed in the form and have limitations and exclusions. It is important to understand what your company exposures are and make sure your policy covers your needs. Policies can be tailored to address any unique exposures, but need to be done so prior to a claim occurring.
